Entry #1
Paradiso
Location: Ophelia District, about one block from the waterfront, very close to Opera District
Primary Character/Setting Connections: Zoey Fiala, Alexander Carlevaro, Ezio Carlevaro, La Rosa Blu
Notes: Also known as ‘the Planetarium’ or ‘Sub-space’ by patrons; sometimes referred to as the ‘Playpen’ by ex-patron young adults/graduates/upper classmen/those that have been expelled and banned from the premises
Description: An expansive ‘stadium’-style club about the size of a small city’s civic center, ‘Paradiso’ hosts a multifaceted clientele. Patrons range in age from 14 to around 60, with intentional ‘age segregation’ existing at the line between ages 18 and 19. Ages 18 and younger are restricted to the lower 7 levels and, as such, there is little distribution of recreational drugs and alcohol on these levels. That which does exist is typically brought down from the upper levels by more ‘age privileged’ individuals, although it is not uncommon for some ‘Paradiso’ employees to trade tips (or other things) for favors for the underage (which are sometimes referred to as ‘the Earthbound.’) In general, the lower levels are very ‘techno-club’ haphazardly mixed with the formality provided by the ‘Paradiso’ employee dress code (white, black, or gray tuxedos, with tails – top hat and cane optional – for the men, provocative evening wear for the women.) Concessions tend to be standard bar food with a semi-eclectic, ever-changing menu of “exotic” origin. (Supposedly.) The upper levels, on the other hand, are much more ‘adult.’ An easy description would be that of a formal, high-class strip club… mixed into the semi-private VIP state of stadium luxury box suites. Many ‘high rollers’ also have ‘back door’ entrances that allow them to circumvent interaction with the ‘rowdy youth’ of the lower levels. Entertainment in the upper levels is on a ‘per-suite’ basis, with the individual responsible for the ‘rental fee’ in charge of choosing music, environment (including dancers or media feeds, and except for the ceiling), and culinary style (from a list of currently available options.) The key unique feature of ‘Paradiso’ – that which makes it unlike any other club in Asherah and which gives it the ‘Planetarium’ nickname – is the ‘star field’ ceiling that the club continuously sports. In matching with the ‘space race’ focus of the planet, ‘Paradiso’ always acts as a ‘window into space’ – even if it is a synthetic one. As a final note, ‘Paradiso’ operates from 12-noon to 4am, 7 days a week.
